Swimming in the pool

O. M . G.

I actually SWAM in our pool. Not once, not twice, but three times in two days! I happen to be one of those people (girls? LOL) that takes 1/2 hour to get into the pool, with comments along the way of "it's too cold" and "I don't want my hair wet" and "don't splash me!". My star sign is Pisces, the fish, so you think I'd be a bit less dramatic about it! I do wish I could just dive in, do a few laps, and hop out, but I always think about the coldness, or practicalities too much.

But yesterday, as I'm sweating in the heat - IRONING!!! - I thought, bugger this, I'm just going jump in. So to make it real, I said it out loud. Kane was in preschool, and Josh asleep, so it was just Kayla who heard me. She couldn't believe it. So I quickly got changed before I changed my mind, and started walking the usual way down the steps. I then had to make that conscious decision to just dive in. So I did! Man, how good did I feel! And then Kayla and I get jumping off the deck holding hands, and I showed her how to make a huge splash, and do a bit of swimming. John came home and was amazed!

And the same sort of stuff today...except Paris and Melie came too, and then Kane. The best bit was getting Kane to trust me in the water, cause he's still quite scared, but by the end of the time, he was jumping off the edge and in to my arms! How cool! Joshy also came for a big swim, and he loves the water. He's a fish.

We had a yummy BBQ dinner on the deck, and I mentioned how I felt like I could just dive in and do some more laps, so I got up to feel the water, and John pushed me in. But it was beautiful. So we were all in again for another 1/2 hour, and the boys especially had a great time - they didn't want to get out!

This morning Pairs noticed the bunny cage open, and Sam had escaped! Very sad. So we put up posters, and looked around, but no luck so far. She is also in a dilemma because with Christmas and her birthday being so close, shes got a fair amount of $ to spend, and now is trying to decide what to buy. Shes trying to decide between and Play Station 2, an MP3, bike, or TV and DVD player for her room. Imagine being 10 and having to make that decision!

Also bought 2 short sleeve shirts, 2 skirts, one sports shirt and one sports shorts for $198 today for Melie for high school!! What???

Anyway, got a Cybercrop on tomorrow night all weekend at Scrap Yourself Silly. Each one gets bugger and better and am really looking forward to it! We have also introduced Kids Challenges where kids Can scrap or do the craft project for a prize!

My Daughter

had her 10th birthday today! Oh my!

I still remember the day I had her almost like it was yesterday!

Kathryn and Gary came over last night, for a couple of drinks and a natter, and they didn't leave until 11.30, which was absolutely fine, but I still hadn't made the cakes for Paris' birthday. John also had said if I needed a hand to blow up balloons etc to decorate the room for when Paris wakes up, to let him know, but by the time I was ready, he was asleep, so I didn't get to bed until 1.45am. Then this morning I was woken about 6.30!

Paris had invited 7 people, but I guess 'cause of school hols, only 4 came. The party was nice and easy. Very enjoyable. Yes, really!

This is Paris and her 2 besties, Taylah and Jessica.

During our quiet time this arvo (relative quiet anyhow) I was looking for Kane, and I found him in our bathroom using Johns hair stuff. Hmmm, just a tad too much there buddy!

Hot! Hot! Hot!

How hot is it? Well, it is here anyway!

Went shopping tonight - just my 3 girls and me - for school shoes and other school stuff, and to use their Gift Cards they got for Christmas! And man! Buying 3 pairs of shoes for school is time consuming, a headache, and expensive! I wont bore you with the detail of that shop, but I do have to say that Customer Service has almost gone! That's another story that I wont post here...

Anyway, Kayla had $20 on her gift card, and finally decided on a My Scene doll, once she was reassured from Paris that they re just like Bratz Dolls... It was $19.95, so we gave the checkout girl the card, and Kayla asked me "Do I say "Credit please?"". Very cute! I replied that no, she didn't need to this time, but that she should hold her hand out because she would get 5 cents change back. The girl told me then, that they couldn't give money in change, and that it would need to be credited back to the card, or another purchase made. :( Youre kidding? I told her nicely she could keep the 5 cents.

We also went to a couple of hairdressers as I decided I want to try and find one closer to home. I don't get my haircut that often, and the guy I normally go to is in Parramatta. I'm happy with how he does it though, and the prices are great (only $40 for a shampoo, cut and blowdry and my hair is long), but it is a bit awkward going to Parra just for that, and the guy can be a tad sleazy. So, I asked one or two for their prices, and the average was around $70. Big Difference Huh? On the way out, I saw Just Cuts, so popped in there... $22 for just a cut, plus $6 of you want it washed, and another $6 if you want it kinda blowdried. If you want it properly blowdried, they told me it would be between $45 and $65. Why couldn't they give me the actual price? It depended on the length of my hair, and what style I wanted. So, I showed them the length of my hair (just past my shoulder blades) and that I just wanted it straight. They said it would be too hard to determine until they did it. (What?). But the most unbelievable news was that that price was JUST FOR THE BLOWDRY. On top of the $45 to $65 I would need to add the $22 plus $6. Thanks but no thanks.

We got to Castle Towers at 4.30, and got home just after 9pm. Man, my legs are tired.

But on the good side, we shared a nice treat from my friend Donut King. Love Cinnamon donuts! And the coffee revived me! And it was nice to not have to worry about the pram!

Kathryn is over tomorrow and want to try and make a potato frittata or something as she is doing Weight Watchers (I think its WW), and it would be nice to have hot or cold. Also want to make Crissys Choc Walnut cake as it has condensed milk and I looooove condensed milk!

So much happening at SYS

that I can hardly keep up!
plus loads more planned!

I am thinking of introducing Kids Challenges to the site, not just scrapping but craft aswell, but am not really sure yet. Would like some more info and feedback from those who have participated in similar things before... perhaps you have some suggestions for ways to improve them?

I cut a new LP and cassette tape man! Check it out! LOL!

Ikea Disappointment

So, John says to me earlier today "do you want to go to Ikea this arvo?" and I'm looking back at him thinking "Does a duck quack?" I am ready 5 minutes earlier than I need to be and off we go to Ikea! I know hubby gives in when we go shopping there, so I'm set! LOL.

We get about 1/3 of the way through the store, and I have just picked up this chopping board thing that's huge, but would sit on top of my cook top, and would give me extra bench space if needed, and its only $19. "Hmmm" says John, and I quickly throw it in the trolley before he can say "Are you kidding?" Kayla and Kane decide they need to wee, so because the toilets are only in a couple of places, we start off on our journey to find them.

Suddenly, the lights go out, and all is dark for about 10 seconds! Everyone gasps, and freezes! Then some backup lights come on, and we hurry off to the toot.

I am not exaggerating when I say that 2 steps away from the toilet door, an announcement comes on over the loud speaker, saying that everyone is required to leave the store via the checkouts, and no purchases can be made. "What??? I've come all this way, and..." and I look down, and Mr nearly 3 has left a puddle where we stand! So Kayla goes to the toilet, and Kane has to walk with his legs 3 metres apart! We stand somewhere that Daddy will be able to see a not very happy mummy as he comes to the exit.

When we exit Ikea - empty handed!!! Doh! - we notice that all the shops on that level are out of power, and driving off, the traffic lights are out too!

We don't know what happened, but I was very disappointed!! Sad

It's sad...

but a few well known scrappers are slowing down a little, completing their commitments to other DT's, or finishing professional scrapping altogether!

I've read a few posts over the last few days, and its sad to know that we wont be seeing their work anymore or as often. They feel burnt out, or feel that the fun isn't there anymore because of deadlines, or that family is missing out to scrapping, or simply that they've lost the passion or feel uninspired.

Thank you for sharing what you have, but good on you guys for being true to yourself.

Calendar

Made an altered clipboard calendar over the last few days. First time I have ever made something like this off my own back. Not bad me thinks. :)

Quote down bottom says "Where there is family, there is love".

Happy New Year!

Now theres an original title for a post! LOL!

We spent a lazy day at home, and I got bits of time away to work on an altered clipboard calendar. Will definately post here once finito.
My OH's dad came over in the arvo, with the view of staying the night. So we left him all comfy while we all went out for some Maccas near the city, and to watch the 9pm fireworks from the top of Gladesville Bridge. Josh was not a happy chappy sitting in his pram all that time! I must have sung his fav song "Twinkle Twinkle" 649 times to keep him quiet. LOL.

At home I got some nibblies ready, and unfortunately my OH and I had a bit of a spat, and I lost my temper. I hope I lost it permanently - I never want to see my temper ever again! And aren't arguments often over the most stupid things? Ours was over whether I said I was going to make popcorn or not! Anyway, I cleaned up a bit and stormed off downstairs. After crying a bit, I took myself off outside to sit on our pool's decking and sat almost as if I were meditating. I looked at the water, and tried to focus on what I wanted to solve, while calming myself. All very spiritual for me.

In the end, I decided that that was not the memory I wanted to leave with my family, and that I needed to apologise for my outburst. I was not apologising for what I was angry about, merely how I behaved. I was thinking of the Japanese, being very calm people.

So first I apologised to my OH's dad for my outburst, and then to my OH. K and KK were already asleep by this time (around 11.30) but I kissed them and whispered in the ear). J and P had been watching TV elsewhere and I don't think they realised what had happened. Then, at 12.10 when I got up from watching the fireworks on TV, I wished everyone Happy New Year, kissed them, and went to bed.

Start as you mean to go on.

I woke at 9am this morning. Hmmmm... that's NOT how late I mean to get up every morning. My goal is to be ready earlier of a day! :)

We got Kayla and Paris bunnies for Christmas, and they called them Jesse and Sam. Jesse is Kaylas and is about 11 weeks, and Sam is Paris' and about 13 weeks.

This is Kayla with little Jesse

Now, I should actually say Jesse "was"... unfortunately Roger Ramjet our cat got Jesse somehow, and choked her... I heard Paris screaming and ran out after the cat, but was too late. It was so sad. I wanted to bawl, but the girls were doing enough of that for me. We gave Jesse a burial service. But as we did, Kayla wanted to know if we could get another bunny? Hmmm.

Have two great classes coming up on SYS.

1. Paper Rose - with Crissy and

2. Ribbon Album - with Elisabeth.

Check out our forum for more information.

We also have our next Cybercrop coming up soon!
